Troops of the Nigerian Army have neutralized seven suspected bandits in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State following a two-hour gun battle at Baba community on Thursday.
According to information from the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, the operation was based on credible intelligence about the movement of armed groups terrorizing farming communities in the area. The troops reportedly engaged the bandits in a fierce encounter, leaving seven of them dead, while others escaped with gunshot wounds.
Four motorcycles believed to have been used by the assailants were recovered at the scene.
The Katsina State Government commended the troops for their efforts, describing the operation as part of wider military campaigns across frontline local government areas aimed at dismantling criminal hideouts and ensuring farmers can continue their activities this rainy season.
The Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasir Mu’azu, said government remains committed to supporting security agencies through logistics, intelligence sharing, and community collaborations.
He urged residents, particularly in rural communities, to continue providing timely information to security agencies, assuring that every effort is being made to secure lives and livelihoods across the state.
